  • Linux is an operating system from the Unix family.
  • Unix is a much more basic operating system written in the C in the 1970s.
  • Linux was introduced in 1991 by a Finnish programmer named Linus Torvalds.
  • Unlike other operating systems, Linux is completely free.

Linux Distributions (Distros)

  • Kernel (core) of the Linux operating system is existed in all Linux distributions.
  • The difference between different distributions is in the type of software (Packages), how they are installed and their features.
  • Reasons for different Linux distributions:
  • Target
  • Various configurations and packages
  • Supports different hardware models
