Introduction to Kubernetes

  • Kubernetes is an open-source container-orchestration platform used for maintaining & deploying a group of containers.

  • The name “Kubernetes” stems from an ancient Greek word for “helmsman,” (someone who steers a ship, like a container ship) which explains ship wheel logo.
  • The ship wheel has seven sides, in homage to the original name for the project.
  • International Certification: Certified Kubernetes Adminstration (CKA)
  • First time released at 2014 by Google Inc.
  • It maintained by Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) in 2016.
  • Kubernetes has written in Go/Golang programming language.
  • It has become standard for containerized apps in cloud, with the main Cloud Providers (AWS, Azure, GCE, IBM & Oracle).
